Women's Wednesday Football Focus Series
Nicola Docherty’s Euro Qualifiers Shirt.
For this week's Women's Wednesday Football Focus Series, we wanted to showcase Nicola Docherty’s Euro Qualifiers Signed ‘Number 17’ Shirt. Docherty's journey in international football began when she was first called up to join the senior SWNT squad in preparation for a friendly match against France in May 2011. Her debut for the full national team took place in September of the same year when she entered the game as a substitute during halftime in a decisive 7-2 victory over Finland at Tynecastle.
Throughout her career, Nicola has been a consistent presence in Scottish youth football, having represented her country at all levels, including the 2010 UEFA Under-19 Women’s European Championship. Notably, she was a part of the inaugural Rangers women's team that competed in a match at Ibrox, facing Inverness in May 2010.
In 2019, Docherty played in nearly all of Scotland's fixtures, as she was included in the squad for the January friendlies against Norway and Iceland. Before that, her most recent appearance for the national team had been in a 5-0 loss to Belgium in April 2017. Her notable inclusion in the 2019 World Cup squad saw her compete against teams like England and Argentina. This is Docherty’s Euro Qualifiers Signed Number 17 Shirt.
We are delighted that the museum has Docherty’s Euro Qualifiers signed Shirt, and we wanted to showcase her amazing career as part of our blog series.
