Graham McKean – Flower of Scotland
‘Flower of Scotland’ by Ayrshire based Graham McKean – oil on canvas.
Scotland supporters are often dubbed ‘the best fans in the world’ and now the Tartan Army has been immortalised in a unique tribute by an internationally renowned Scottish artist.
‘Flower of Scotland’ by Ayrshire based Graham McKean depicts a crowd decked out in blue and white and is a celebration of the loyalty and passion demonstrated by Scottish fans as they travel the globe cheering on the national team.
The 3’ by 4’ oil painting – which is one of the most ambitious works ever created by the artist – will go on display at the Scottish Football Museum at Hampden.
Over the next year visitors will be able to admire the £35,000 painting up close and marvel
at the incredible detail and vibrant colours used by McKean, while a donation will be made to the museum for every print sold.
The highly acclaimed artist – whose works have featured in some of the world’s top galleries – is an avid Scotland fan and he spent considerable time creating an image that portrayed the party atmosphere the Tartan Army provide on match days.
“Having been taken to Scotland games as a youngster and having experienced at first hand the intense and unique atmosphere of a big international Scotland match, I knew exactly the picture I wanted to paint in my mind’s eye from the very first rough sketches,” said Graham McKean.
