Motherwell Football Club Badge
Motherwell Football Club was founded on the 17th of May 1886, when two representatives of the two main Motherwell works teams, Glencairn FC and Alpha FC, met in Baille’s pub in Merry Street and decided to merge to create a club to represent the town as a whole at a higher footballing level. Motherwell had a successful debut winning 3-2 against Hamilton Academical. Up until 1895, the club played at a few different venues, including Roman Road and Dalziel Park. The pitch at Dalziel Park was deemed unsuitable, and Lord Hamilton granted a lease on a plot of land on his Dalzell estate. This was named Fir Park and has been the club’s home for 136 years. #ObjectoftheWeek #scottishfootballmuseum
