Bobby Walker

Judged by contemporaries to be one of the greatest stars of his generation, the talented forward was the first Hearts player to score over 100 League goals. Having joined the Tynecastle club from Dalry Primrose in 1896 he joined the Hearts first team as it charged towards the Championship title in 1897. In 1901 Walker was the star of the show in Hearts’ 4-3 Scottish Cup Final win over Celtic and he would reach the final three more times, winning the coveted trophy for a second time in 1906.

As well as scoring goals Walker was a brilliant playmaker, combining sublime dribbling skills with precise passing. Such was his fame that during the club’s first overseas tour in 1912 King Haakkon of Norway attended a match to watch him play. Not surprisingly Bobby was a regular choice for the international selectors winning a remarkable 29 caps between 1900 and 1913, a haul which would not be surpassed until 1931. Walker also scored eight times for Scotland, including the winning goal against England in a 2-1 win at Bramall Lane in 1903.
